Howard Bank, a growth-focused community bank serving businesses, professionals and individuals in the Greater Baltimore area, announced today that Mary Ann Scully, its Founder, President and CEO, has received EY’s Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2017 Award in the Maryland region.

A leading banker with more than 30 years of experience, Ms. Scully was selected with other talented area business leaders by a panel of independent judges. The announcement was made at a special gala on Wednesday evening, June 28, 2017, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

EY’s Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program, which is celebrating its 31st year, recognizes entrepreneurs who excelin areas such as innovation, financial performance,and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall National Award winner, will be announced at the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Awards gala in Palm Springs, California on Nov. 18, 2017. The awards are the culminating event of the Strategic Growth Forum™, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies. The Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall Award winner then moves on to compete for the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in Monaco in June 2018.

  • Was named to the Russell 2000 stock index in June 2017
  • Raised $41.4 million in capital in an oversubscribed offering in January 2017.
  • Topped $1 billion in assets in the third quarter of 2016.
  • Closed a private placement with several highly regarded institutional bank investors, including Baltimore-based T. Rowe Price in 2015. The placement resulted in the issuance of 2.2 million shares of stock, which increased capital by $25 million.
  • Closed on an acquisition of Baltimore-based Patapsco Bancorp, Inc., creating the largest publicly traded bank headquartered in the Greater Baltimore in the third quarter of 2015.
  • Purchased most assets and all the deposits of troubled Rising Sun, Md.-based NBRS Financial Bank in an FDIC assisted transaction that added five branches, roughly $180 million in total assets and $183 million in total deposits in October 2014.
