Baltimore native and Mount St. Joseph power forward Jalen Smith announced his commitment to the Maryland men's basketball program on Twitter June 26 after an official visit to College Park, Md., this past weekend.
Smith became the program's second commitment of the 2018 class, with North Carolina wing Aaron Wiggins having pledged to the Terps June 3.
Smith will be the second Gael in as many recruiting classes to commit to Maryland. Guard Darryl Morsell, Smith's teammate the last three years at the Baltimore school, signed with the Terps last fall and is now on campus. Smith and Morsell led Mount St. Joseph to MIAA 'A' conference and Baltimore Catholic League titles earlier this year. Smith, who averaged nearly a double-double his junior season, was named All-Metro co-player of the year by The Baltimore Sun in March.
