It's extremely unlikely the Orioles will be playing relevant baseball at the end of the season.
That's the most appropriate way to state the obvious, right? You could say "the Orioles stink" or something like that, but there's an obligation to be truthful in journalism. As of the moment I write this (the morning of June 22), the Orioles are just a game under .500 and are only two games out of a playoff spot in the American League. So saying "the Orioles stink" wouldn't fairly paint the picture, even if having given up five runs or more in 18 straight games would suggest it truthful.
The reason why we can comfortably believe it's rather unlikely the fortunes of the team will change is because of that five-run streak. The realities of the team's disastrous starting pitching appear to be insurmountable while the calendar still says "2017." The Orioles don't need one starting pitcher to fortify their chances. They need an entirely new group. Or they need the group of guys they have to remember how to pitch.
