Katherine Bixby Excited To Take Over Johns Hopkins' Women's Basketball Team

During her three years as the women's basketball head coach at Dickinson College, Katherine Bixby had to prepare for a well-coached Johns Hopkins team that always challenged her Red Devils in Centennial Conference play. Now, Bixby will call the shots for her former league rival.

Bixby was named the seventh women's basketball head coach in Johns Hopkins history June 16. She will take over for longtime coach Nancy Funk, who announced her retirement April 25 after 31 years with the Blue Jays.

"I really respected everyone at Dickinson, and it was a tough decision because I had built so many strong relationships there," Bixby said. "But I really envisioned myself in Baltimore, working at Johns Hopkins. Baltimore is a diverse city, and the basketball is really good here. The academics at Johns Hopkins are so strong, and the school's values are the same ones that I grew up with."
