Starting Pitching, Big Offensive Names Struggling For Orioles

As soon as the Orioles drafted Georgia high school left-hander DL Hall in the first round of the draft June 12, the tweeps began asking: Can he pitch tonight? How soon can he be ready?

I'm not sure they were joking.

Even though Orioles scouting director Gary Rajsich said he didn't think it would be long before Hall could pitch in the major leagues, it won't be this year nor next. In reality, even if he's dominant, an 18-year-old high school pitcher won't be ready until at least 2019 or 2020 -- if the Orioles are fortunate.
