The Baltimore Orioles are missing their third baseman and their top two relievers, and for the second straight game without Manny Machado, they lost.
Manager Buck Showalter said the Orioles would wait a few days for Machado's strained left wrist to heal, but before the 8-2 loss to the New York Yankees before a sellout crowd of 46,031 at Yankee Stadium June 9, revealed that Darren O'Day would go on the disabled list with a right shoulder injury.
O'Day could be back June 17, but besides experiencing the loss of the sidearming right-hander, the Orioles have been without their superlative left-handed closer Zach Britton since early May.
Without O'Day and Britton, right-hander Brad Brach should get nearly all of the closing opportunities. Perhaps right-hander Mychal Givens could get a turn in the closer's role, too.
