Beth Markowitz
National Aquarium is pleased to announce that Beth Markowitz has been hired as Volunteer Engagement Manager. Markowitz will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Aquarium’s volunteer program, made up of over 950 volunteers who assist with all aspects of the Aquarium’s operations.
Prior to joining the National Aquarium, Markowitz served as the volunteer manager at Sinai Hospital. She developed and managed several volunteer programs, supporting patient wellness and providing opportunities for the community to engage in valuable volunteer experiences. She was responsible for establishing the robust student volunteer program that attracts more than 200 high school and college students annually. While at Sinai, Markowitz launched and advanced several initiatives, including the Patient Support Program, Survivors Offering Support, Doula and Mother’s Helpers programs.
“The National Aquarium’s volunteer community – from exhibit guides to certified divers and beyond – is integral to our organization and our mission,” said National Aquarium Chief Administrative Officer Candace Osunsade. “With more than six years of experience at one of Maryland’s most trusted public health institutions, Beth brings a wealth of experience and passion to help advance our current programs and plant the seed for new opportunities.”
Markowitz is an active member of several notable volunteer organizations including the Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals, Baltimore County School to Career Advisory Council and the Maryland Healthcare Directors of Volunteer Services.
Markowitz holds master’s degrees in human resources development and nonprofit management from Towson University and the College of Notre Dame, and a bachelor’s degree in communications and public relations from the University of Maryland, College Park.
