According to Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Dan Duquette, two longtime major leaguers now at the Baltimore Orioles' Triple-A Norfolk team, right fielder Pedro Alvarez and right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson, have agreed to postpone their opt-out dates for a few days.
Both players had a June 1 opt-out, and the Virginian-Pilot first reported that Alvarez agreed to a short extension, and the Baltimore Sun reported that Jackson's opt-out is now June 5.
"[Alvarez] is still on the roster there at Norfolk. We had an agreement where he gave us a few more days to see if we could create a spot for him on the big league roster," Duquette said, "In return for a couple of more days, we've given him the option to stay with us or if he found a job to take a job with another major league club."
