Not long before Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and San Francisco Giants reliever Hunter Strickland were issued four and six-game suspensions, respectively, for their part in a brawl May 29, Orioles manager Buck Showalter was asked his reaction to the incident.
Showalter said that earlier in the day he spoke with Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, who charged the mound last June 7 when Kansas City Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura hit him with a pitch.
"I had to bring it up. He doesn't dwell on much of that," Showalter said.
Showalter, who is part of MLB's competition committee, has mixed emotions on the subject of headhunting in baseball.
