Orioles manager Buck Showalter has said that his team will probably have to move from a six-man bullpen to a seven-man one. However, he’s no closer to figuring out when that expansion will take place.
“I have a pretty good idea of how we’re going to end up,” Showalter said. “A lot of that had to do with April with the off days and everything. When, if, kind of a little bit of both. I think the last couple of nights are a good example of why we’re probably going to end up with seven.”
When Showalter needs to rest some relievers -- like he did May 12 -- it may leave just three or four available pitchers in a six-man pen. He’s been trumpeting the advantages of a five-man bench, but with outfielder Hyun Soo Kim not starting since May 5, the Orioles haven’t used it very much.
