As the Orioles' longest game of 2017 reached the 12th inning May 9, Hyun Soo Kim watched. The South Korean outfielder hasn't played in the past four games, and after batting .302 in 95 games with the Orioles last season, he's hitting .227 in 16 games.
A year ago, when Kim refused the Orioles' request to begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk, he rarely played in the season's early weeks, but he did well. Kim appeared in nine of the Orioles' first 32 games and hit .478.
It was expected Kim would get more opportunities to play this season, and he's played nearly twice as much at this point as he did a year ago, but he isn't doing nearly as well.
