Distracted Driving Awareness Events To Educate People About The Dangers Of Losing Attention Behind The Wheel

Who:                As part of the Maryland Trauma System distracted driving awareness statewide initiative, Johns Hopkins Health System Trauma Centers will host events to educate people about the dangers of distracted driving. The events are free and open to the public.

What:               Johns Hopkins Health System, home to five of Maryland’s designated trauma and specialty care centers, recognizes the importance of distracted driving prevention and education. These awareness events will educate attendees on how to practice safe behaviors behind the wheel to help create safer roadways and reduce injuries and fatalities from vehicle collisions.

Why:                Distracted driving is deadly. In 2014, more than 3,100 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in the United States in motor vehicle collisions involving distracted drivers.

When:              Wednesday, April 5, 2017  (See below for event times.)

Where:             The Johns Hopkins Hospital

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers will host a Distracted Driving Awareness Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hope Forest Lobby/Corridor (outside of the cafeteria) in the Children’s Medical/Children’s Surgical Building (600 N. Wolfe St., Baltimore). The Fair will feature information on distracted driving crash data, evidenced-based prevention programs, policy implementation and successes, and more. Exhibitors will be on hand from Maryland Highway Safety Office, Maryland State Police, AT&T and University of Maryland’s Legal Resource Center for Public Health Policy.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Partnering with state and local agencies, the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute’s Trauma Center and Johns Hopkins Bayview’s Trauma Center will host a Distracted Driving Awareness Fair in the Francis X. Knott Conference Center (4940 Eastern Ave., Baltimore) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Suburban Hospital

Suburban Hospital will host a Distracted Driving Awareness Fair in classrooms 6 and 7 in the lower level of the hospital (8600 Old Georgetown Rd, Bethesda) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
