Baltimore Magazine Names Charm City’s 2017 Best Restaurants

2/15/17

After visiting dozens of Baltimore’s restaurants, from newcomers to mainstays, Baltimore magazine reveals their annual March cover story, 50 Best Restaurants. With seemingly endless choices in a wide variety of cuisines and neighborhoods, choosing where to dine can be challenging. That’s what makes this story a must-read for both locals and visitors who love to dine out.

“Our rundown isn’t simply a list—you can get that anywhere,” says food and dining editor Jane Marion. “We offer in-depth analysis based on hundreds of hours of taste testing, observations, and interviews, and we even share tips from the field.”

50 Best Restaurants also answers the pressing question, “How do you decide who makes the list?” and delves deep into the derivation of dishes and restaurant names, highlighting décor details, and visiting the front and the back of the house with a server, bartender, chef and maître d’ to show readers what it takes to operate a first-rate restaurant. Restaurant owners also share details on some of their most sought out dishes, including Clavel’s queso fundido and Gunther & Co.’s Thai seafood hot pot.

Baltimore magazine also features Stix Stars, the ultimate lacrosse roundup of the region’s 22 heavyweights of the 2017 high school season. Plus, the editors share a few fun sides to the sport, which influence its fans from snacks to fashion and more. Additionally, the magazine’s spring fashion featureNotorious Beauty pays homage to John Waters’ film Pink Flamingos with a mix of vintage patterns, contemporary trends, and their very own Divine.

Other highlights of the March issue include Greg’s Goodbye, with local bagel baron Greg Novik discussing his life, legacy, and the future of Belvedere Square’s beloved Greg’s Bagels. In addition, senior editor Ron Cassie takes an in-depth look at Maryland’s dirty open secret in Children of the Night. Cassie notes that Maryland ranked fourth among the top states for per capita human sex trafficking, but has done next to nothing to support the hundreds of victims each year, the majority of whom are 17 years old or younger.

The issue is available by subscription and can be purchased at newsstands throughout the Baltimore area beginning February 24, 2017.

Baltimore magazine is the area’s most popular guide to the best of the greater Baltimore region. Its “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors,” and “Best Restaurants” features have become signatures of the magazine, and Baltimore’s monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle, and the arts has earned numerous awards, including several City and Regional Magazine Awards (CRMA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards. In 2017,Baltimore magazine celebrates its 110th anniversary and is the country’s oldest continuously published city/regional magazine.
