Discern Health Appoints Dr. Mai Pham as Senior Advisor

1/26/17

Discern Health is pleased to announce our affiliation with Mai Pham, MD, MPH as a Senior Advisor. Mai most recently served as Chief Innovation Officer at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). Among other achievements at CMMI, Mai spearheaded development and implementation of the alternative payment model (APM) portion of MACRA, which will fundamentally change the way that Medicare pays for physician services.

In her role with Discern, Mai will work with our staff and clients to apply her expertise in payment reform and value-based care models. Areas of particular interest include the development of new APMs that meet MACRA requirements, analysis of risk adjustment models and their impact on payment incentives, and methods to use reimbursement to drive delivery of high value health services.

The collaboration is a natural fit for Mai and Discern. For over a decade, Discern has worked with clients to address the evolving needs of a value-based health care system, focusing on performance measurement and alternative payment approaches. In addition to her work on MACRA, Mai led numerous CMMI initiatives (such as the Pioneer and NextGen ACO models) that are helping to drive health care innovation across the country. Mai has held numerous research and clinical positions, and has published extensively on delivery system reform. In parallel with her work at Discern, Mai is also a Senior Fellow at the Robert J. Margolis Center for Health Policy at Duke University.

Please contact Guy (gdandrea@discernhealth.com) or Mai (maihpham@gmail.com) to learn more about this new collaboration and how Discern helps its clients address health system challenges.
