Offit Kurman announces the retirement of commercial trial attorney Miller Poppleton. His retirement marks the next stage in an illustrious 40-year career spent providing legal counsel and guidance to clients in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. In moving on from his current role, Mr. Poppleton has taken a “Retired Counsel” position with Offit Kurman.

The change in Mr. Poppleton’s status is effective January 1st, 2017. Starting on that date, Offit Kurman commercial litigation attorney Brian Loffredo will take over all of Mr. Poppleton’s active cases and will accept all new cases on Mr. Poppleton’s behalf. While he will officially retire as an equity partner, Mr. Poppleton will remain fully licensed and will retain full access to the office and email.

For four decades, Miller has advised clients on how to avoid litigation through alternative dispute resolution, providing strategic counseling in the construction industry to encourage early resolution, while at the same time ensuring that the requisite notices and conditions have been met in the event litigation becomes necessary. This experience and expertise in pre-litigation services have provided clients with smooth transitions for any ensuing disputes.

Prior to affiliating with Offit Kurman, Mr. Poppleton was a co-founder and principal of a mid-sized general practice firm: Poppleton, Garrett & Polott, P.C., in Rockville, Maryland. He also served in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Corps for six years, with two years aboard the nuclear submarine U.S.S. Skate (SSN 578).

Offit Kurman had only 18 practitioners when Mr. Poppleton joined the firm’s Maple Lawn office—6 months after the office was established. Today, the firm is affiliated with more than 130 attorneys in multiple office locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
