Rosenberg Martin Greenberg Law Firm Invests $25,000 in Education Programming from Charitable Fund at Baltimore Community Foundation

12/1/16

Today, the Baltimore Community Foundation announced $25,000 in grants to fund important education work from the Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP Continuing Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation.

In 2012, Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP (RMG) established the Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP Continuing Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation in celebration of its 25th anniversary. It supports organizations committed to education reform in Baltimore City. It is named a “continuing fund” because it will be a permanent charitable endowment at the Baltimore Community Foundation, continuing to grow and distribute grants for generations to come.

The grant recipients for funding in 2016 were Playworks and Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation Inc. (MCCEI).

The $12,500 grant from the RMG fund to the Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation Inc. will support a partnership between MCCEI and the Architecture/Construction/ Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program to expand the number of schools offering both construction, design and management curricula, and ACE Mentor programs. The partnership will target high schools in low to moderate income areas of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and northern Anne Arundel County.

Barry Greenberg, RMG Managing Partner, explained the Fund's decision. "Our grants committee was very impressed with MCCEI's direct approach to teaching marketable skills,” Greenberg said. “RMG represents many businesses in the real estate and construction industries that need a well-trained workforce. MCCEI's program offers a pathway for students to successful careers in the real estate space."

Playworks (also a 2015 RMG grant recipient) provides play-based activities which improve the educational climate for every student. With its $12,500 grant, Playworks will deliver services to 19 schools in Baltimore City. Playworks matches each partner school with services that match the need. The common thread running throughout all Playworks programs is that a highly-trained adult teaches children the social skills necessary to succeed in the classroom and life.

"Last spring Barry and I had the privilege of participating in the Playworks program at a West Baltimore middle school," said Ben Rosenberg, RMG Chairman. “We saw first-hand the positive impact that Playworks has on schoolchildren and had no hesitancy in continuing our support of this very important and well-run project."

Tom Wilcox, BCF President and CEO, said, “It’s been a pleasure to work with Rosenberg Martin Greenberg on this grant program for the last four years. The impact they have made with their grantmaking is evident, and I applaud their commitment to serving as a role model to other businesses who want to give back to their community and pursue a more active role as a civic leader.”
