Baltimore Magazine Celebrates Baltimore at Night

11/14/16

Issue includes a gift guide for the holiday season and the 20 moments that mattered in 2016

From South Baltimore to north of 695, the December cover story, Baltimore at Night, gives readers a celebration of Charm City after dark, with a breakdown of the area’s best neighborhood bars, late-night bites, bucket list musts, neon signs, and much more.

“As the day winds down and stretches into night, Charm City comes alive with an electric energy and authentic spirit,” said associate editor Lydia Woolever. “Whatever the activity or hour, it’s a celebration of the senses and there’s no better time to make the most of Baltimore at night.”

The December issue of Baltimore magazine also features its annual Gift Guide, where style editor Lauren Bell gives gift recommendations for everyone on your holiday hit list categorized by color. Another feature,In Retrospect, reviews the 20 moments in the year that not only impacted the region, but the world, including the flash flooding that decimated Downtown Ellicott City, Maryland athletes dominated the Summer Olympics in RIo with a staggering 23 medals, and the U.S. Treasury Department announced that Harriet Tubman would be the new face of the $20 bill, making her the first woman and African-American honored on a modern paper currency.

Additionally, in Ballet Boys, arts and culture editor Gabriella Souza delves deep into the world of boys ballet by visiting with the Estelle Dennis/Peabody Dance Training Program to learn about why more young men are choosing dance over traditional sports and how it is changing their lives.

Other highlights of the issue include All Downhill From Here, a guide that will help readers beat the winter blues with a list of 10 powder-ful ski resorts within a day’s drive of Charm City and On the Ropes,a story about how young Baltimore boxers have found a safe haven in the ring.

For all the foodies, food editor Jane Marion shares a special Local Flavor Cookbook inside the December issue. The special pullout section features five beloved Baltimore chefs who share their favorite at-home recipes. "It is our hope that readers will get inspired to roll up their sleeves, preheat the oven, and pull out those pots and pans because there’s really nothing like a meal that’s cooked in your own kitchen,”says Marion. A portion of the proceeds from this cookbook will benefit Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, a non-profit organization that helps homebound people eat well and remain in their own homes.

The issue is available by subscription and can also be purchased at newsstands throughout the Baltimore area beginning November 25 2016.

Baltimore magazine is the area’s most popular guide to the best of the greater Baltimore region. Its “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors,” and “Best Restaurants” features have become signatures of the magazine, and Baltimore’s monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle, and the arts has earned numerous awards, including several City and Regional Magazine Awards (CRMA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards.
