Baltimore Magazine Names the Top Doctors of 2016 In November Issue

10/18/16

One of Baltimore’s biggest claims to fame is its medical community, and there isn’t a more closely followed or more exclusive healthcare honor roll in the region than Baltimore magazine’s annual “Top Doctors” list. In the November issue, readers get an insider’s glance at the metro area’s top physicians in more than 100 medical specialties, based on a peer survey of 12,000 physicians.

“This survey is the most dependable and comprehensive list in the region and a resource our readers have trusted for 30 years,” says Ken Iglehart, managing editor, special editions for Baltimore. “To get an idea of how highly regarded you need to be by your peers to make this list, the winners represent only about 5 percent of all the physicians in the greater Baltimore area.”

There’s more to “Top Doctors” than a string of names, though: The magazine profiles Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen and reports on groundbreaking new research at The Johns Hopkins University that shows the drug compound psilocybin—the active ingredient in “magic” mushrooms—can help people quit smoking and also relieve depression and anxiety problems associated with cancer diagnoses.

The November issue also features Far East Feast, in which style editor Lauren Bell gives readers a special holiday guide on how to pull off a trendy Asian-inspired extravaganza and Safety Lessons, which looks at all the dangers lurking on the region’s higher-education campuses, and what colleges are doing about those issues, which range from sexual assault, binge drinking, and drugs to muggings and even the threat of active shooters.

Other highlights of November’s issue include Leap of Faith, an interview with Isaac “Yitsi” Schleifer, the 5th District’s youngest incoming city councilman and first Orthodox Jewish member in decades; Start Me Up, a story on Patrick Rife, co-founder of Startup Soiree, and how he aims to make networking more fun; and Mr. Johnson Goes to Washington, a focus on Baltimorean Broderick Johnson and how he fought his way from West Baltimore to the West Wing as an assistant to the president, cabinet secretary, and leader of the My Brother’s Keep Task Force.

The issue is available by subscription and can also be purchased at newsstands throughout the Baltimore area beginning October 28, 2016.

Baltimore magazine is the area’s most popular guide to the best of the greater Baltimore region. Its “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors,” and “Best Restaurants” features have become signatures of the magazine, and Baltimore’s monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle, and the arts has earned numerous awards, including several City and Regional Magazine Awards (CRMA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards. In 2016,Baltimore magazine celebrates its 109th anniversary and is the country’s oldest continuously published city/regional magazine.
