On October 17, 2016, Maryland Attorney General, Brian Frosh, along with Doug Gansler, Benjamin Grumbles, Stephen Lafferty, and other distinguished speakers will meet to confer on how to save the Chesapeake Bay in a University of Baltimore Law Review Symposium. The Law Offices of Evan K. Thalenberg, P.A. and Chesapeake BaySavers are the event’s title sponsors. The Baltimore-based law practice, dedicated to representing those affected by lead paint, and the Chesapeake BaySavers, an Annapolis-based environmental non-profit organization, are supporting the annual conference with a $10,000 co-sponsorship. The event will take place between 4-8 PM on Monday, October 17 in the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Moot Court Room at 1401 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21201.

This year’s symposium theme, “Can Law Save the Chesapeake Bay?,” will focus on legal solutions that help improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay, one of Maryland’s most important natural resources. Evan Thalenberg, the Co-Founder and President of the Chesapeake BaySavers and the Founder and President of The Law Offices of Evan K. Thalenberg, P.A., will provide welcoming remarks to open the symposium. Since the Chesapeake BaySavers’ inception, the non-profit has played a key role in helping to pass several pieces of legislation that protect the Bay’s oyster population, including the Sustainable Oyster Population and Fishery Act of 2016, which ensures that the Bay’s oyster population will be sustainably managed.

Symposium attendees are invited to participate in two panels. The first will focus on current and future legal actions that impact the Chesapeake Bay, and the second will cover various career opportunities in environmental law. Speakers include Benjamin Grumbles, Secretary of the Environment, Stephen W. Lafferty, Maryland House of Delegates, and keynote speaker Brian E. Frosh, Maryland Attorney General.
