CIA Comes to Baltimore to Present on Social Media Strategies

@CIA: Who’s Following Whom? CIA’s social media team will shed a light on the question as part of a PRSA Maryland workshop on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at The Conference Center at Sheppard Pratt.  Registration for the workshop is open to professionals interested in learning social media strategies from the CIA, including how to overcome organizational reluctance to engage new audiences, and how to avoid the pitfalls and reap the rewards of social media platforms.  The workshop is part of the PRSA Maryland’s ongoing professional development series.

The CIA’s Twitter stats read like a Harper’s Index of social media for government intelligence agencies: 30 Following; 1.54M Followers; 2,123 Tweets; 71 Likes. For an agency with lots of secrets, 2,123 Tweets is no surprise. And, for an agency that doesn’t disclose close friends, 71 Likes may be even less of a surprise. But, who are those select 30 the CIA is following? Better yet, what are more than a million and a half CIA followers hoping to find out?

Carolyn Reams, CIA Social Media Lead and CIA.gov Content Manager and Preston Golson, head of the Public Communications Branch of CIA’s Office of Public Affairs will lead the conversation to share what the CIA is doing and why. Advance registration is requested however walk-ins available based on space. Registration is $35 for PRSA members and $45 for all others. Registration is available at www.PRSAMD.org/events.
