8/24/16

The Community College of Baltimore County has been named one of the 10 institutions receiving the inaugural “Excellence in Assessment” designation. According to the national release, the EIA program spotlights “institutions successfully integrating  assessment practices across campus, providing evidence of student learning outcomes and using assessment results to guide institutional decision-making and improve student performance.”

“The goal of assessment at CCBC is to ensure the best conditions for learning, encourage best practices, and inspire creativity and innovation. CCBC has been lauded for its work in assessment and has been a national leader in assessment of student learning for many years,” according to Rose Mince, dean of Curriculum/Assessment at CCBC.

President Sandra L. Kurtinitis remarks, “We are gratified to be recognized in the inaugural class of this national designation for excellence in assessment. CCBC is dedicated to student success and works hard to use data to determine which initiatives have merit and which do not.  As much, we recognize that data needs to be interpreted with both our hearts and our heads, endowing measurement with meaning well beyond that of   an exercise.”

The sponsors of the EIA program are the Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA), a public college and university transparency initiative led by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), in partnership with the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) and the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA).

The other recipients of the EIA designation are:  Cameron University, Capella University, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis, Kansas State University, Mills College, Mount St. Joseph University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Zayed University.
