Baltimore Magazine Unveils 2016’s Best of Baltimore Winners

In 2016, the city grew stronger giving Baltimore a lot to be proud of. This August, Baltimore magazine releases its annual Best of Baltimore issue with 181 winners in four categories from Food and Lifestyle to Arts and News.

“There’s so much to celebrate here—in arts, culture, dining, and more—and so many reasons to believe that our best is yet to come,” said managing editor Max Weiss. “Plus, we’ve got the hot-off-the press results of the Readers’ Poll.”

The August issue also features Domino Effect, a photo essay depicting Baltimore’s iconic Domino Sugars sign as seen by area artists; Senator Barb, a story about Senator Barbara Mikulski’s journey to becoming Dean of the U.S. Senate Women; and Farm City, a look at how the urban farming movement has taken root in Baltimore and could be the city’s next growth industry.

Other highlights of the issue include The Little Theatre That Could, a story on the history of Fells Point’s Vagabond Theatre and a look forward to what is to come for its next century of shows; Vaulting Ambition, a focus on Donnell Whittenburg’s rise as a U.S. national gymnast and the hardships he overcome along the way; The High Life, a look at Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands and how it is a bastion of beauty—both natural and man-made; and inCursed Restaurants, local restaurateurs discuss the myth about some long suffering spots being jinxed.

The August issue is available by subscription or by purchase on newsstands throughout the Baltimore area beginning July 29, 2016.

In celebration of the issue, Baltimore magazine will host its annual Best of Baltimore Party benefiting The Family Tree on Thursday, August 18thfrom 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Hippodrome Theatre. Tickets are $95 to $150 and can be purchased online at http://bmag.co/bob16. The event offers guests live music from Bosley and beats from DJ Kopec. Guests will enjoy gourmet eats from Charm City’s “best” restaurants, sip handcrafted cocktails and exceptional brews, enjoy specialty luxury lounges, indulge in delicious desserts and much more.
