Human Genome Sciences (NASDAQ:HGSI) is a biopharmaceutical company with a commercial focus. Monday, February 27, 2012, the company will report its fourth quarter earnings.

Expectations: Analysts are expecting the company to come in with a loss of 42 cents per share, a smaller loss than a year ago, when it reported a loss of 46 cents per share. The consensus estimate has dipped over the past three months from a loss of 41 cents. For the fiscal year, analysts are projecting a loss of $1.97 per share. The company's revenue is expected to beat the year-earlier total of $21.3 million by 100.6% to finish at $42.6 million for the quarter. The company is projected to report revenue of $128 million for the fiscal year.

Performance: Revenue has dropped in the past four quarters. It decreased 33% to $34 million in the third quarter. Prior to that, the figure fell 35.9% in the second quarter, 42.9% in the first quarter and 59.8% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year. The stock price has risen from $7.03 on November 25, 2011 to $8.92 over the past quarter. Human Genome's best recent streak was when its price gained $1.87 per share between January 17, 2012 and January 30, 2012.

Ratings: The majority of analysts (60%) give the stock a buy rating. However, that is lower than the average analyst ratings for the comapny's 10 closest competitors, which average 61.2% buys. Analysts are slightly more optimistic about the stock recently, as the number of buy ratings has risen slightly over the past three months.
