Howard Hospital Foundation Receives $1 Million Donation

COLUMBIA, Md.-Howard Hospital Foundation, which provides philanthropic support to Howard County General Hospital, received a $1 million gift from Dr. Sanford A. Berman and Dr. Kay Y. Ota-Berman to support the hospital's Campus Development Plan.

The hospital will name the atrium in its main lobby the Dr. Sanford A. Berman and Dr. Kay Y. Ota-Berman Atrium to recognize the Berman/Ota gift. The Bermans are residents of Howard County, Md.

"Giving to the hospital was an emotional decision for us. We gave because we have good relationships with our doctors and like the environment the hospital has created. There is no other place that we felt we would like to give," Dr. Sandy Berman said.

The Campus Development Plan has raised nearly $25 million to date toward the $30 million goal.

According to Sandy Harriman, vice president of development for Howard Hospital Foundation, "This is such an amazing gift and comes at a critical time in our campaign. This $1 million gift will be pivotal in helping us reach our fundraising goal. There is nothing that makes us happier than patients who have had a positive experience with our hospital and who appreciate the care given to them by their physician. The gratitude and generosity of Sandy and Kay is indeed a very special gift, and we thank them on behalf of all the people in our community served by Howard County General Hospital."

Howard Hospital Foundation is a private, non-profit organization entrusted to provide philanthropic support of Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Through the generosity of many donors, the Foundation helps Howard County General Hospital respond to the health care needs of the growing community, fostering world-class medical care and wellness services in a convenient, local setting.
