Baltimore, Maryland -- There is a health and wellness movement that has people becoming more aware of their eating and lifestyle habits, and how it's affecting their health - Health Coaching.
According to Jolie McShane, President of the Mid-Atlantic Health Coach Association, a certified health coach's premise is to concentrate on evaluating personal health influences and delivering authentic solutions in a consumer friendly-fashion. The goal is to create a lifestyle that consists of healthy choices in all aspects of life---providing a healthy balance resulting in success.
McShane wondered, if a health coach's goal is to keep you in a state of wellness, or get you there if you need to be - then, how does the average person find a health coach to fit their needs?
September 2011, Jolie McShane, Pia Civiletti, Gina Navarro and Yolanda Jackson, all graduates from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, formed The Maryland Health Coach Association - a non-profit, professional community of certified health coaches dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and enhancing the wellbeing of their customers. What started out as a small group of health coaches in Baltimore, a website and a lot of passion has grown to over 40 members in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. in less than five months.
"We had to change our name to reflect our membership", McShane proudly states to NewHope360 - the premiere digital marketplace that connects the healthy lifestyle industry from supply to shelf. She and Gina Navarro were interviewed to discuss the importance of Health & Wellness Coaches to the healthy lifestyle industry. "We (Health Coaches) are the middle-man - we're in the stores with our clients pointing out alternative products to try. Health Coaches are creating passionate, brand loyal consumers. If that's not cool, I'm not sure what is?" jokes Navarro.
The Maryland Health Coach Association officially became the Mid-Atlantic Health Coach Association (MAHCA) last week. Collectively, MAHCA offers the community at large, educational and informational forums, event listings, lectures, workshops, health fairs, cooking lessons and many other health-related events offered by its members. "We will continue to provide health coaches and related professionals a place to exchange ideas, create wellness, and promote healthy living", states Pia Civiletti, MAHCA Vice President. While Yolanda Jackson adds, "if you have a specific health related concern, for example a digestive sensitivity that isn't being helped with traditional medicine, search for an expert on our website under Health Coach Specialty".
The health coaching market stands to expand dramatically as more people live longer and continue to recognize the importance of maintaining total health. The Mid-Atlantic Health Coach Association is growing not only in membership, but also in consumer awareness - "We are stronger together and here to stay" the MAHCA Board makes a habit of saying at each member meeting.
