BALTIMORE, MD -- In its most dramatic move toward growth and advancement in its history, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Maryland Mentoring Partnership marked its 60th anniversary by announcing a new organization name, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake and tagline, Mentoring Maryland's Future. In 2010, the state's two largest youth mentoring programs united and today, from the offices of Under Armour, a long-standing corporate mentoring partner, organization leaders unveiled the new name, logo and tagline.

"Since joining forces in 2010, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Maryland Mentoring Partnership has operated as one organization bearing both names, and now, we felt the time was right to operate under a name that more accurately reflects the agency's service area and commitment to mentor children in Maryland," said Jason Pappas, Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake Board of Directors.

The newly renamed organization will continue to expand the availability of mentoring programs and training across the state of Maryland, from the Eastern Shore beyond Baltimore City to southern Maryland. Through its innovative programming and increased number of mentoring opportunities, the agency serves a larger number of at-risk youth, including children with incarcerated parents and those already involved in the juvenile justice system.

In conjunction with the name change, the agency also unveiled a new logo, website www.biglittle.org, social media accounts: facebook.com/BBBSGreaterChesapeake and twitter.com/BBBSGC and launched the "I Love Mentoring" Campaign which encourages users to post videos and photos on the new social media platforms, sharing why they love being part of BBBS of the Greater Chesapeake.

According to Robin Tomechko, President and Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, "Our mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported relationships, and there are currently more than 87,000 in Maryland in need of one. The time was right to call attention to the need for more mentors, celebrate our past and look toward our future by announcing this new name at Under Armour, one of our long-standing partners."

"It is an honor to host today's announcement and to be one of the more than 30 corporate mentoring partners," said Brad Dickerson, CFO of Under Armour, Inc. and board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake. "We are committed to mentoring and encourage other businesses to contact the agency to start their own work-site program."
