Glen Burnie, MD - NovaSom Inc., the leader in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) home testing, announces it has earned renewal of The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in ambulatory care organizations. NovaSom was first accredited in 2008.

The reaccreditation, which lasts three years, recognizes NovaSom's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated NovaSom for compliance and found the company meets the standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and environment of care.

"Organizations that strive for accreditation in ambulatory care from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to quality to their patients, staff and community," explained Michael Kulczycki, executive director, Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission.
"I commend NovaSom for successfully achieving this pinnacle and for its dedication to continually improving patient care."

NovaSom is the industry leader in home sleep testing for OSA, with the first FDA-cleared device and more than 10 years of experience in home sleep diagnostics. NovaSom's home sleep testing technology measures the same five parameters to diagnose OSA as most sleep labs and as recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Two peer-reviewed publications have demonstrated Novasom testing to be clinically equivalent to sleep lab studies for uncomplicated, adult OSA diagnosis. NovaSom also is approved by CMS as an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility.

"OSA is one of the most serious and under-diagnosed medical problems in the United States and NovaSom is committed to providing a less expensive, convenient and clinically proven option for patients to test for sleep apnea in the comfort and privacy of their homes," said Richard Hassett, MD, CEO, NovaSom. "We are pleased that The Joint Commission has again recognized our efforts to provide high quality patient care, and look forward to continuing to build on this framework."

Since 1975, The Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards for outpatient ambulatory care organizations. Nearly 1,900 freestanding ambulatory care organizations maintain Joint Commission accreditation. The Joint Commission's ambulatory care standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of an ambulatory care organization. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
