OWINGS MILLS, Md. and SILVER SPRING, Md. -- A pair of Maryland companies cracked the top 10 in Fortune's Top 100 fastest growing companies for 2011.
Medifast (NYSE:MED) placed fifth overall followed by Discovery Communications (Nasdaq:DISCA) at seventh.
Medifast, an Owings Mills-based weight loss program, moved up 24 spots from last year while nonfiction media company Discovery Communications' placement marks its debut.
Also making Fortune's list were Silver-Spring-based United Therapeutics (Nasdaq:UTHR), ranked 43, and Rockville-based Catalyst Health Solutions (Nasdaq:CHSI), ranked 100.
