Columbia, Maryland -- The Greater Baltimore Chapter for the National Football Foundation in partnership with The Greene Turtle -Columbia, MD location are proud to announce the "Howard County Football Athlete of the Week" award.

Each week, coaches from the Howard County High School varsity football teams will submit a player for consideration. Winners will be announced each Monday through an e-mail to the coaches as well as on various social media outlets (Greene Turtle-Columbia Facebook page,

and the Twitter account for the NFF-Baltimore, http://twitter.com/nff_baltimore ) Each week, selected honorees will receive a gift certificate and other promotional items.

According to Paul Glagola, President of the Greater Baltimore Chapter, "In support of our chapter's mission to promote amateur football in the greater Baltimore area, this weekly honor was an additional way to promote players outstanding performance on the field during the upcoming football season."

About Greater Baltimore Chapter for the National Football Foundation:
Since it was founded in 1961, the Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame has been actively promoting amateur football in Baltimore and the surrounding counties of Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick, Harford and Howard.

The main activity of the Baltimore Chapter each year is their scholar-athlete banquet which boasts one of the largest banquets each year with over 1200 people in attendance. Since the first dinner in 1964, well over 2800 student athletes have been honored and over 40,000 people have attended the dinner. Each year this dinner awards the coveted Scholar Athlete awards with over $350,000 being distributed thus far. Another coveted award is the Service to Football Award, which is bestowed to individuals who have best served high school or college football in the area. The award is presented in the name of Herb Armstrong, a founding member and longtime President of the Maryland Scholastic Association.  In 2011, the Greater Baltimore Chapter hosted a Football 101 for Women Clinic at Towson University.
