With Kinetic Energy’s Jake Tarr on Board, AnyPresence Raises $2M - cbl

CHEVY CHASE, Md. -- AnyPresence Inc. has completed a $2 million offering, raising the amount from a single investor. It is the first financing round reported by the Herndon, Va.-based SaaS company.

Executives and directors named in a recent regulatory filing disclosing the raise include:

- Anirban Chakrabarti, co-founder and CEO
- Betsy Atkins, chairman and former CEO and Chairman of Clear Standards
- Richard Mendis, co-founder and CMO
- Rakesh Rao, co-founder and CTO
- Bernard "Jake" Tarr, director, from Kinetic Ventures (Chevy Chase, Md. and Atlanta, Ga.)
- Campbell Lanier, director, from Kinetic Ventures

Chakrabarti was previously global vice president and general manager at SAP where he managed the carbon and energy related cloud-based solutions business. He co-founded Clear Standards which was venture-backed and acquired by SAP in June 2009. Chakrabarti was also the former vice president of Product Marketing at Intelliworks. He holds a B.S. in Information Systems and Accounting from George Mason University's School of Management and is a graduate of the executive program at the Harvard Business School.

AnyPresence offers a suite of products geared toward employee engagement through next-generation smartphones and tablet devices. It cites as its mission to improve workplace interactions through software that centered around employee engagement, millennials, and mobile business applications.

Jake Tarr
Managing Director

Jake joined Kinetic Ventures in 1987. His investment activities focus on power/clean technologies, transaction-based software and other emerging concepts. He is a director of NYSE Blue, SmartSynch, Zift Solutions, and LeaseTerm Insurance Group, LLC. Earlier investments include Clear Standards (acquired by SAP; NYSE: SAP), Peace Software (acquired by First Data Corp.), Innova (IPO), Xenergy (acquired by NYSEG, now Energy East), and Liberty Technologies (IPO). Earlier in his career, Jake worked as a currency trader with the Bank of New York. He received his BA degree from Roanoke College and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Campbell B. ("Cam") Lanier, III
Senior Director

Cam joined Kinetic Ventures in 2008. His investment activities focus on communications, software, and financial services. He is a Director of SmartSynch, Tower Cloud, Cardlytics, and LeaseTerm Insurance Group, LLC. He is also the Chairman of ITC Holding Company, LLC. Earlier in his career, he co-founded Interstate Communications (Telecom*USA), which grew to be the fourth largest long distance service provider in the United States when it was acquired by MCI in 1990. Cam was the founding investor and Chairman of Powertel (now T-Mobile), which was acquired by Deutsche Telecom in 2000. He was also the founding investor for Mindspring, which later merged with Earthlink, and the founding investor in Firethorn, a mobile payments company that was acquired in the fall of 2007 by Qualcomm. In addition, Cam was the founding investor of ITC^DeltaCom, Knology and InterCall.

Betsy Atkins is a highly acclaimed public company Board Director, author, and the former CEO and Chairman of Clear Standards. Ms. Atkins has served on some of the world's most visible global public company boards. For 20 years, she has worked behind the scenes at companies like Lucent, HealthSouth, Vonage, Paychex Corp and Secure Computing.

Ms. Atkins started her business career as an entrepreneur, co-founding several successful high technology and consumer companies including blockbuster Ascend Communications, which grew to $5.4B and was acquired by Lucent in one of the largest mergers in history. Ms. Atkins is an effective operational leader, having been CEO three times, dramatically scaling, building, and repositioning businesses resulting in acquisitions and public offerings. She has a strong international and operational perspective encompassing the full range of experience from explosive growth to restructuring.

Ms. Atkins has been known for her early stage venture capital firm Baja LLC's technology investments in companies such as Yahoo and eBay. She has authored several publications on corporate governance, and was appointed by President George Bush as a member of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Trust Company.

Ms. Atkins is an alumni of the University of Massachusetts, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Trinity College Oxford.

Richard Mendis is a co-founder and the CMO of AnyPresence. He is responsible for overall product marketing and product management functions, including product roadmap, strategy, interface design, and marketing communications.

Before co-founding AnyPresence, Richard Mendis spent over 16 years in the software and information services industry. Most recently, Richard was Vice President of Solution Management at SAP, where he led product management of SAP's carbon and energy management suite. Richard joined SAP through the acquisition of SaaS startup Clear Standards, where he was co-founder and CMO, responsible for marketing, product management, and business development. Before that, he was Vice President of Marketing at Current Analysis, a leading competitive intelligence firm in the mobile telecommunications sector, where he launched the company's web commerce channel. Richard has held senior roles in product management, sales consulting and professional services at Siebel Systems, and worked at software development startup Saratoga Systems.

Richard is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Toronto.

Rakesh Rao is a co-founder and the CTO of AnyPresence. He is responsible for all aspects of product development, including the technology platform, native mobile clients, and web application.

Rakesh is a veteran enterprise software architect with over 17 years experience successfully managing both on-shore and off-shore application software development teams. Prior to co-founding AnyPresence, he was Vice President of Product Development at SAP Labs, where he managed a global engineering team. Rakesh joined SAP through the Clear Standards acquisition, where he was a co-founder and CTO. Before that, he was a Director of Product Marketing at Oracle, where he worked on the Fusion project to merge Oracle's acquisitions of disparate software platforms. Rakesh joined Oracle through the acquisition of Siebel Systems, where he was responsible for architecting Siebel's Marketing Automation suite. Rakesh was Vice President, Technical Product Management at Paragren Technologies, one of the earliest providers of marketing automation and analytics technology (acquired by Siebel Systems in 2001).

Rakesh has a Masters in Engineering Management (Software Systems) from The George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Production Engineering, from the University of Mysore.
