Michele Johnson

Central Scholarship (CSB) has named Michele Waxman Johnson as Deputy Director. Johnson began working at CSB in February as Board Coordinator, and was promoted to this newly created position. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Leadership Frederick County, a community leadership program in Frederick, MD, for 11 years. In 2010, Johnson was a political candidate in Carroll County, MD. Previously, she held positions in transportation planning and college admissions, in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

At CSB, Johnsons focus will now be on working with the President on implementation of the 2010 strategic plan, oversight of the scholarship administration and technology planning.

Michele understands the critical role of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and in enriching the fabric of our community. She brings a wealth of experience working with community leaders, creating new programs, and planning for the future, says Jan Wagner, President and CEO at CSB.

A Pikesville native, Johnson earned a Masters degree in Planning from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. Johnson is married with two children, and lives in Mount Airy, MD.

Founded in Baltimore in 1924, CSB helps students from low and moderate income families from throughout Maryland realize their academic and professional goals by providing $1 million annually in interest-free loans and grants for use at accredited institutions anywhere in the United States. All funds come from individual donations and foundations.
