Quality Time with array of Maryland's top corporate, government and organizational leaders during ABC's Annual Gala
Baltimore, Maryland - On Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Martin's West, the Associated Black Charities Annual Gala: Honoring African Americans in Corporate Leadershipwill recognize some 15 outstanding African American leaders from throughout Maryland for their civic and leadership contributions.
As one of the evening's key events, ABC will accept both live and silent "bids" on what has best been described as "one-on-one quality time, or a VIP Bidding Experience" with a host of corporate, government, and nonprofit leaders to include top-in-their-field lawyers Billy Murphy and Ron Shapiro, veteran news reporter from WBAL TV Jayne Miller, State Delegate Catherine Pugh, University of Maryland President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, M&T Bank Regional Manager Carl Hairston, and Venable LLP Managing Partner Karl W. Racine.
The Gala Committee co-chairs are President & CEO of Brown Capital Management Eddie C. Brown, and Chairman, President & CEO of Constellation Energy Mayo Shattuck.
The evening will stay on pace with co-emcees WJZ-TV News Anchor Kai Jackson, and president of The Cryor Group Michael Cryor.
With more than 900 attendees expected, confirmations of note include Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Senator Ben Cardin, Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings, and a number of Baltimore City elected officials to include Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and City Council President Jack Young.
The evening's main theme involves recognizing outstanding African -Americans in the corporate leadership community, comprised of three suggested categories: Icons, Torchbearers, and Emerging Leaders. Among those being recognized in the Icon category are Chair of BGE's Corporate Contributions Committee Anita Jackson, former Baltimore City Fire Chief Herman Williams, and Senior Vice-president and Chief Compliance Officer for Citi Nerry Mitchell.
The Torchbearer category includes such familiar names as CEO of Bon Secours Health System Dr. Samuel Lee Ross, and Vice President of Corporate Communications for McCormick & Company Lori Robinson.
Gala attendees will learn more about the Emerging Leaders group to include Wachovia District Manager Clarence Campbell, Vice-president and Business Banking Regional Manager for M&T Bank Carl Hairston, and Senior VP of Public Policy and Community Affairs for CareFirst Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Marie Harris Tildon.
"While we take enormous pride in ABC's More in the Middle Initiative, which includes our Speakers Series, Financial Literacy Workshops, Board Pipeline Program, Workforce Development, and programs to address health issues," said Diane Bell-McKoy, President/ CEO of ABC. "We are aware that it is our community partners, like-minded organizations, government leaders, and corporate partners that allow the motion of progress to continue. The Gala is our premiere way of recognizing these partners and perhaps in the process to spur linkages among Maryland's enormous pool of talent."
The top Gala sponsors include Martin's West, M&T Bank, and Constellation Energy. A variety of musical entertainment will flow through, and close, the evening: Spur of the Moment, Chelsey Green and the Green Project, flutist Delandria Mills, and The Jolley Brothers.
