Network 2000 Presents Business 2000 Award to Legg Mason

BALTIMORE -- Network 2000, which promotes the advancement of women in professional and executive roles, presented the Business 2000 Award this year to Legg Mason, a global asset management firm headquartered in Baltimore, for its commitment to the advancement of women in all aspects of its business operations.

Legg Mason comprises 1,455 employees, 648 of whom are women. Thirty-six percent of women at Legg Mason are minorities. The firm operates a Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council and sponsors a Global Mentoring Program, which seeks to develop women and minorities by matching high-performing employees with mentors. Eighty-three women have participated in the yearlong program since 2005.

The annual Business 2000 Award recognizes businesses with a strong corporate presence in Maryland that align with Network 2000's mission of supporting women in business. Network 2000 looks at the number of women in senior and executive management, the number of women on the company's board of directors, employment practices and results that demonstrate the company values the advancement and support of women.

Network 2000 presented the Business 2000 Award to Legg Mason CEO Mark Fetting and recognized the finalists this year at its Roadmap to the Boardroom symposium March 22, 2011.
